Membership / Senators Club

The Senators Club is open to men and women who have reached the age of 50 years. Membership is open to any person that is interested in joining. Membership in the Knights of Columbus is not a requirement.

The Sentors hold card games on the first Thursday and Third Tuesday of every month at 1:45 pm with the exception of July and August. They also hold a Christmas Dinner and Dance and sponsor and annual "Excursion Around the Bay" in June.

Note: Members are requested to bring along a light snack (i.e. sandwiches, deserts, etc) to each card game.

Anyone interested in joining can attend a card game and make contact with Jim Murphy or one of the other Executive Members.

The following is a brief account of the formation of the Senators in Terra Nova Council #1452. 

While on a business trip to Ottawa in 1987 P.G.K. Howard Dyer and Bro. Michael Walsh visited Champlain Council #1926 Knights of Colombus.  They were introduced to a group known as the "Senators"; senior members of council who were retired or approaching retirement.  On returning to Terra Nova Council P.G.K. Howard Dyer organized a meeting of senior members and introduced them to the idea of forming a Senators Club.  Terra Nova Council Senators Club was established on 19 May, 1987.  It consisted of the Senators and their wives.  Under the presidency of P.G.K.  James Murphy two amendments were added to the constitution.  In 2003 woman were permitted to be elected to the executive.  In 2005 membership was extended to the general public.  The Senators card group have card games every second Thursday at Terra Nova Council commencing in September and concluding in June of the next year.  After the card game we enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and sandwiches.  At Christmas and June we have a catered dinner which is free to our members who have attended 75% of the card games.  Membership is $2 per year.  We cordially extend an invitation to anyone wishing to join.
